Questions for your marriage or civil partnership venue

Organising a wedding or civil partnership ceremony can be daunting if you haven’t done it before.

There so many things to think about.

To help we have put together a list of important questions you should ask your potential wedding or civil partnership ceremony venue when you visit:

 

Payments and booking

  • How long can you hold the date for while we check registrar availability?
  • How much will the deposit be and when are payments due?
  • What is the cancellation policy if the venue cancels the booking?
  • What is the cancellation policy if the couple cancels the booking?
  • Are there any costs not included in their specified wedding and ceremonies packages?

Co-ordination

  • What is the maximum venue capacity for guests? Or is there a minimum number of guests required for booking?
  • Do you have to use the venues suppliers for things like catering, venue styling and flowers?
  • Has the venue got a civil ceremonies licence?
  • Are there specific times ceremonies take place?
  • Is parking available for guests?
  • Is there accommodation on site for guest or can you recommend accommodation nearby?
  • If there is accommodation on site what are the check in and check out times?
  • When can we access the venue before and after the ceremony to decorated and remove decorations?
  • Is confetti allowed?

Food and drink

  • What are the menu options included in the specified wedding and ceremonies packages and what are the options for allergies and food restrictions?
  • Is there any food, tea, and coffee included in the evening do package?
  • Are there any free drinks included in the wedding breakfast? (usually, a glass of fizz for the toast would be provided but this is not guaranteed).
  • How many guests can each table seat?
  • Are linen, crockery and glasses included in the cost?
  • Is there a corkage fee? (If you purchase your own wine)
  • Are there any sound restrictions after certain hours, does the DJ/band have to finish at a certain time?
  • Does the bar have to close at a certain time?
